Summary

Integrative motivation in a globalizing world

This article reports on research into the motivation of Indonesian children aged 11-12 years old,
as they begin formal study of English in an urban junior high school. This research used closed and open questionnaire items, backed up by class observations and interviews with a selected group of learners.Very high levels of motivations to learn the language were found throughout the cohort, including both integrative and instrumental orientations, but these two traditionally that distinct constructs were found to be almost indistinguishable. The article argues that as English loses its association with particular Anglophone cultures and instead identified with powerful forces of globalization, the desire to "integrate " loses its explanatory power in many EFL contexts.Individuals may aspire towards a "biculture" identity which incorporates an English-speaking globally-involved version of themselves in addition to their local L-1 speaking self.It is speculated that changes in individuals' motivation to learn the language may therefore be partly explained by reference to ongoing processes of identification, especially during the formative years of adolescence.

Individual differences in second language acquisition: attitudes, learn subjectivity, and L2 pragmatic norms

Anecdotal reports from classroom language teachers suggest that students' professed positive attitudes towards learn English and their language-related behaviors often do not match. Many claim "interest" in the language and, when pushed to explain, the learners tend to state that" it is necessary" to study English for their future careers or for study abroad.Very few seems to be motivated to acculturate to the target language culture or norms of communication. These reports motivated my decision to look into the attitudes of EFL learners in the form of a study of individual differences, specifically, one which focuses on the relationship among attitudes , learner self-identity, and willingness to accommodate to L2 pragmatic norms. This paper reports on evidence of the extent Japanese EFL learners seek to adopt L2 communicative norms. The descriptive account explores learners' self-reports on attitudes towards the target language, subjective reactions to L2 pragmatic norms, and motivations towards accommodating to those norms. While the levels of resistance to acquiring proficiency in the use of L2 pragmatic norms is not strong, the learners' accounts indicate their efforts to establish a L2 self-identity compatible with their own individual goals.

The effects of industrial development

Tainan Science Industry Park has been established at our nearby township for several years. There was a vast field before the industrial development. But now, there are many constructions and companies in this park. This has had some changes, and it affects our life closely and quietly.

Firstly, since the companies and companies were built a few years ago, a great amount of exhaust steam and water has been produced, and the waste matters produce the acid rain.As a result, the land, water and crops are polluted in this condition. Because of the pollution, people who live in the nearby area become ill more easily ill than other people. For example, when people eat the polluted food or
breathe in the exhaust steam in a long time, they may have cancers or lung disease. The pollution has caused a big environmental problem and it affects people's health seriously.

Secondly, the work opportunities has increased, too. So, many people seek a job or work in the park, and some of them immigrated from other places.Consenquently, they bring more business affairs at the surrounding of the park. For instance, the houses are built for new immigrants, the numerous breakfast shops are opened for the working people. They make the quiet and beautiful countryside become noisy and bustled.Because of this, they break the original feature of the country.

Furtherfore, the traffic problem is also another effect of the development. The influx of cars and vehicles cause more accidents .Some accidents happened because the drivers don't obey the traffic rule, therefore, many car crashs happened on the crossroad because the drivers run the red light. For this reason, some pedestrians won't go out during the peak period.

The development brings some advantages and disadvantages. If these companies can keep the environment in a good condition, such as landspace engineering and green belt.Or they can control the exhaust steam and water, tackle the waste matters carefully.Drivers can obey the traffic rule and caution the pedestrians.Follow these ways, there will be still good to the industrial development.

Baseball players get injury easilier than softball players

Softball is almost the same as baseball. There are some similarities of them, but baseball players get injury easilier than softball players. In order to start a game, softball is exactly the same as baseball, they both need a pitcher, a hitter and defensive players. The pitcher pitches the ball to let hitter hits the ball in a ineffective way.But baseball pitchers have to use their body's power to pitch a speedy ball in each pitching .If their pitching actions were incorrect, they might hurt their arms, elbows and shoulders, such as pulled muscle, broken ligament.Alougth softball pitchers also need to pitch, they only throw the ball high and slow to make hitter's ineffective hitting.Softball is not so powerful as baseball.

Hitters are hit by the pitcher make some serious injuries, too. It's a common event in baseball games .Due to the speedy ball, a hitter's reaction time only has 0.4 to 0.5 second. In such a temporary monent, the hitter needs to decide to swing or not, and it includes to evade the uncontrolled ball from the pitcher, too.In American baseball history, there was a famous hitter's death involved in hitting by a pitcher because the uncontrolled ball hit his head.Compare to this, softball is more slower, and hitters are safer than baseball hitters.

Baseball park is wider than softball park.Basball players also defense in a wider field than softball players. When the hitter hits a hit, defensive players run to catch the ball and throw it back infield. In a wider field, the players need to run faster and throw the ball back rapider, so they might sprain their knees and malleolus, pull their legs and arms.Especially in cold days, if the players don't warm up with enough time, they might get injury more easilier.

Baseball games are more impactive than softball games. In baseball games, runners can make some legal crashes to defensive players in some situations, but runners in softball games, they can't touch the defensive player's body while he is tackling the ball. Some baseball players have injured themself in this kind of crash.

Compare these two similar sports, baseball is more excited and powerful than softball. On the other hand, many young baseball players get injury and they end their baseball careers because their serious injuries. If you want to play baseball, you should receive a tranditional training with a qualified coach. The coach will implant the correct concept to you, especially some protections of injuries. If you have not received the training yet, softbll would be another good choice.
